Based on Nick Charles's best selling autobiography - 'Through a Glass Brightly' published by Robson Chrysalis.
'THE SPIRIT HEALER' - An extremely powerful and dramatic movie, detailing the true life story of an exceptional singer (Nick Charles) in the fifties and sixties. At the age of just 15, Nick was tipped to be the next Frank Sinatra. He lost out, to an overwhelming addiction to alcohol.
Divorce, eviction and poverty ensued. In fact, this future singing icon's whole quality of life, subsequently degenerated into one of alcoholic vagrancy, despair and attempted suicide...
Tired of living as an alcoholic tramp on the streets of London , and after being viciously knifed by a gang of youths, 'Brummie Nick' crawled away and lay down to die in a huge concrete sewer pipe - knife included. He awoke, to see rays of morning sunlight shining through the pipe, only to see them rebound off the partially embedded blade, into the eyes of a rat, which was eating from the bloody and open flesh wound in his stomach.
He was, on another occasion, zipped up into a body bag, believed to be dead, when in fact, he was paralysed dumb and comatose from drinking industrial alcohol, cleverly distilled from the likes of hair lacquer and boot polish. In a slovenly, urine soaked heap, Nick could hear the disgusted crowds of people and his morgue carriers above him, but was unable to speak and tell them that he was still alive! Fortunately for Nick, an eye movement alerted a policeman that he was still with us.
Clearly, Nick wasn't meant to die, for he also survived no less than seven, near-fatal car crashes. This amazing man's true fate, was in fact, to call on every one of his low life experiences and help to rehabilitate some of the worst possible alcoholic cases imaginable, later on in his life.
Upon his own recovery, Nick refurbished a burnt out wing of Ealing Hospital and founded the world famous 'Chaucer Clinic', (with the help of half of London 's vagrant alcoholics) which is now the U.K. 's largest rehabilitation center for alcoholics.
In 1996, the Queen honoured Nick with the MBE for his services to people with alcohol problems.
Nick is now a millionaire and best selling author.
'THE SPIRIT HEALER' oozes an abundance of dramatic poignancy and is spiked with audacious, inebriated antics that will have audiences around the globe howling with laughter.
This movie will portray an individual, who has suffered immensely on his travels and survived against all the odds; for one purpose and one purpose only, to save millions of alcoholics from the ravages of their alcoholism in Chaucer Clinics across the world.
The UK NHS states that just 1% of alcohol dependant patients recover from their alcoholism.
Even Alcoholics Anonymous can only boast a success rate of 18%
Nick Charles has a staggering 85% success rate in treating alcoholics at his Chaucer Clinic.
This incredible success story is expected to be a £15 - £20m blockbuster movie and offers huge cinematic appeal on an International scale.
